52 Ways To Be Green is a week-by-week guide designed to help you become more resilient, live more sustainably, and reduce your negative impact on the environment. Whether you are looking to start your journey to live more lightly on this planet, or searching for ideas to improve on your choices and actions, this guide can help you change your life for the better!
A quick introduction, and history of this project: my name is Kelly and I live in Guelph, Ontario, Canada with my two sons, husband, and dog. A few years back, my life was turned upside down and I had a lot of decisions to make as I started to rebuild. As I did so, I decided to focus on making conscious decisions that would reduce my negative impact on the environment and align my lifestyle with my environmentalist values. I’d always had a deep nature connection but knew I had a long way to go to improve on my day to day activities. Over the last 5 years I’ve discovered a number of habits, best practices, and lifestyle changes that reduce my carbon output and also greatly improve my quality of life.
For me, change takes time to process and take root. That’s why 52 Ways To Be Greenintroduces a new tip, trick, challenge, or idea that will help you on your journey only once a week. By making one change per week over the next year, you can take the time you need to adapt your lifestyle and still accomplish a lot by the end of the year.
Two other quick notes:
- The ideas and changes in 52 Ways To Be Green are designed to be family friendly (although not exclusively).I know that trying to make changes when family are involved can often be challenging, but with time, conversation and patience it can happen. I hope that those of you who are caring for little people find this useful!
- Becoming more environmentally friendly isn’t black and white. Don’t worry about “making mistakes” along the way. There’s no wrong way to “go green” and every step you take will improve your life and reduce your carbon output. Don’t beat yourself up when something doesn’t stick! It’s all about doing what you can and making the changes that best suit your life.
